Psychology Assessments
There are many types of Psychological Assessments for children and youth.
Currently, we are only offering screening assessments for elementary school children (kindergarten to grade 8). Screening assessments do NOT explore whether a child has a diagnosis. They also do NOT usually qualify children for special education or other supports.
Screening assessments provide information about children's strengths and needs. We will make suggestions about next steps- such as further assessment, treatment, or other supports.
Currently, we offer the following types of Screening Assessments:
Developmental Snapshot Screening
($500)
Parents, pediatricians, or community providers can refer elementary school aged (JK-grade 8) children for a comprehensive developmental snapshot screening assessment. These 2-hour screening assessments will consider:
- Non-verbal ability
- Language skills
- Fine motor skills
- As appropriate, reading, spelling, and math calculation
- Social-emotional-behavioural functioning
A developmental profile will be provided that gives practical strategies for understanding and working with the child based on their developmental characteristics. The assessment includes feedback provided to parents and/or community providers in a joint meeting.
Early Reading Screening
($250)
Our Early Reading Screening Assessment service is intended for children kindergarten to grade 4. It provides a brief, targeted assessment of a child's reading compared to peers. It also assesses children's phonics knowledge, sight word recognition, decoding strategies, and reading fluency. It is not a diagnostic assessment. However, the results of the assessment can inform next steps to support your child's reading.
Typically, we run a group-based screening and support program twice per year, in Oct/Nov and Jan/Feb. However, we may also conduct individualized screenings.
Ultra-Brief Academic Screening
($125)
This is a 1-hour appointment to see if elementary children (grade 1-6) are developing age-appropriate basic academic skills with respect to reading, written output, basic math calculations, and language proficiency. Based on the screeners, parents/providers will receive a brief 1-page report and suggestions for next steps.

Selective Mutism Assessment
($500)
A Selective Mutism Diagnostic Assessment answers whether a child meets criteria for a diagnosis of Selective Mutism. Children may have selective mutism if they speak freely at home and/or with family, but do not speak in public settings or around strangers.
As part of this assessment we will screen for other potential developmental or mental health issues, but will not evaluate diagnoses other than Selective Mutism.
Selective Mutism assessments typically involve:
- Interview(s) with caregivers
- Review of records
- Questionnaire(s)
- Observations of the child, in the clinic
- In some cases, brief screening of language/reasoning skills
A report will be provided with a diagnostic conclusion and recommendations.
