Psychology Consultation and Intervention
Psychology Consultation is getting advice from a Psychology professional about a child or adolescent's learning, development, behaviour, or mental health. Often we consult to parents. For example, parents may want to answer questions such as:
- -Is there a possibility my child may have a learning, developmental, or mental health issue that could benefit from professional help?
- -My child has recently gotten a diagnosis. What does this mean?
- -What kind of therapy might benefit my child?
Consultations can range from 1 session to a few sessions.
Psychology Intervention is also known as "treatment" or "therapy". With intervention, we have a more defined goal and plan. For example, we may offer intervention to:
- -Build social skills
- -Improve emotional coping
- -Improve behaviour
- -Build skills such as self help skills or academic skills
- -Address mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or selective mutism
- -Assist with school refusal behaviour
We use a variety of intervention approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy. Sometimes, intervention is 1-1 with the child or adolescent. However, it often involves parents. Sometimes, we find parenting intervention is the most helpful format. After we get to know your needs, we will discuss a specific plan with you.
Consultation and Intervention services currently cost $125 per hour (2024).
